John A. Laskowski of Sterling died Saturday July 13. 2013 after battling lymphoma for the past year. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl. John was born in Scranton on July 9, 1958, to Marie, Sterling, and the late Frank Laskowski. He wrestled for Western Wayne High School and graduated in 1976. He earned a BS in psychology in 1981 from Wilkes College, co-owned and operated a family sawmill for several years, then spent more than 20 years working for what is now Hanson Aggregates in Lake Ariel. John and his wife, Cheryl, loved being and doing everything together. In their 31 years of marriage, they took on big tasks like building their current home. They also enjoyed simpler things like frequent road trips to visit family and favorite places. John was becoming an avid bicyclist before his diagnosis, but always spent time hiking, hunting and gardening. He served on the church council at Cross Road Assembly and loved teaching Sunday school. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Scranton for its care. He is also survived by his daughters, Aubrey Schwartz and Megan Hampton; his sisters, Diane Hull and Barbara Helm; his brother, Donald Laskowski; his twin brother, Ray Laskowski; his grandsons, Ocean Schwartz and Josiah Hampton; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Benjamin and Lois Franc. Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Cross Road Assembly, Elmhurst. Friends may call at Cross Road Assembly on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
