About The Class of 1976
The students from "Class of 1976" started their
elementary education at the Lake Ariel, Waymart, Hamlin, South Canaan or
Aldenville schools. In 1969 and 1970 the students from Lake Ariel &
Waymart were temporarily joined together at the elementary school in South Canaan
for 5th and 6th grade. After South Canaan, we returned to Lake Ariel &
Waymart schools until half way through 9th grade.
The New Western Wayne
High School was supposed to be ready for us to start 9th grade on September 1,
1972, but due to a rainy summer & fall and a workers strike, it was delayed.
Here is a news article from November 13th 1971 that provides some
details. The
Class of
1976
merged under one roof at the new high school, after a long Christmas break in
January of 1973. We graduated on June 1st, 1976.
